Why We Need to Understand Men's Psycology

The short purple dress or the classy black kurta? The-tried-and tested nude make-up or the sexy red pout? And should you go dutch or let him pay the bill? While there’s plenty out there telling us what women want, what men want is a subject still as mysterious as why all shades of blue appeal equally to most men. We talk to a few men and tell you what they really like and what puts them off about women.

He doesn’t want a doormat
It was a pleasant surprise to us and it sure will be to you as well. Most men we spoke to like women who have a mind of their own and who think of their lives as theirs and not an extension on their man’s.  “I like women who are goal and career-oriented,” says a young achiever, 29. “I like them to be rebellious when it comes to the dominant male attitude. The fact that they are financially independent adds that spark to their personality.” Another successful man in his early thirties, agrees. “Women who are well informed, intelligent and know what they are talking are a huge turn-on.”

He notices your pedicureThis one is for all the investment you make at the beauty parlour. “I don’t mind a major part of our family income going to parlours. I like women to look well-groomed,” says young hotel management graduate. And by groomed, we are not talking made up; it’s the basics. “Women’s hands and feet are a turn-on,” says a HRD professional, 36. “I’m not saying they should always wear nail paint and heels, but manicured hands, pedicured feet and smooth hands and legs definitely look groomed.”

He hates the make-up

It is interesting to see the world from a man’s perspective at times. You spend hours in front of the mirror dressing up, putting on your make-up only to realise that he liked you better before. A diamond merchant of 28, likes his diamonds bright and sparkling, but prefers women who are subtle. “Who needs so much make-up? It’s such a turn off.” Percussionist Jay, 23, too prefers the natural look. “I like innocent faces. That’s possible only with minimal or no make-up,” he says.

He doesn’t care for skin show
Don’t have the legs to carry off that short skirt? Then don’t wear it. And it doesn’t help either when you see other women in their plunging necklines. Don’t be jealous because men don’t seem to like them either. A young student, 21,  explained, “Women with a classy sense of dressing are so much better.” An MBA student, echoes the same thought. “Women with revealing clothes look like they are making up for something else they might not possess,” he says. “Your confidence should come through great body language and not flirtatious behaviour and revealing clothes.”
